Does God See Me?

A stack of light gray stones on a bed of green moss, set against the backdrop of a blurred forest.
“You are the God who sees me.” Genesis 16:13

Hagar was alone, afraid, and rejected cast out into the desert by people who never really cared about her heart. She hadn’t asked to be in the situation she was in. She didn’t choose to raise her child alone. But there she was: a single mother, carrying the weight of survival not just for herself, but for her son

And that’s where God met her.

In the middle of the wilderness.
In the fear.
In the heartbreak.
In the questions.

He came close and she called Him El Roi, “The God who sees me.”

There’s a different kind of fear that comes with being a single mother. It’s the fear of being enough for two. The fear of failing someone you love more than anything in the world. It’s lying awake at night wondering how you’ll provide, who will protect you both, and whether you’ll ever feel safe again.

And yet, even in that wilderness God sees you.

He sees the strength it takes to hold your child and your heart together at the same time.
He sees the sacrifices no one applauds.
He sees the love you pour out every single day the kind that runs deeper than pain, stronger than fear, and fiercer than the storm around you.

You didn’t choose this path but He’s walking it with you.
You are not forgotten. You are not invisible.
You are seen. You are loved. You are not alone.

Prayer:
Lord, thank You for being the God who sees me. I didn’t choose this road, but You are on it with me. You know the fear I carry for my child and for myself — and You hold us both. Help me trust that You are near, that You see every tear, and that Your grace is still enough for us. Amen.
